GASTRONOMY…
Flowers are not only use in gardens and decoration but also in food dishes. The habit of using flowers in food comes from a long time ago back in history.
In the book La Odisea they talked to us about dishes with lotus flower, for example.
The Roman Empire used flowers in gastronomy. We know that Carlomagno liked flowers in his salad. Aparicio, Carlomagno´s cheff use the malba flower for his salads.
Since that time to our days, flowers are apreciatted for the cheffs all around the world.We can find also the use of flowers in the elaboration of sweets, wines and teas.
EATING FLOWERS…
The pumking flower is use in Mexico in several dishes. Its taste is soft and tender. The most famous recipe is the “quesadillas” with this flower
The isote is the national flower of Salvador .They use it in salads and also mix it with eggs. It s common to find it in guatemala too.
The flower shown which name is “taco de reina o capuccino” is good for salads. In France it is an important ingredient in french cuisine.It have a hot taste.
In Japan the chrysanthemun and the magnolia are used with the rice. You need to boil the petals with water, when they are ready you have to season them with oil and vinager. The chrysantemun is a typical dish in the New Year dinner.( see feng shui ).
In Indonesia, cheffs use the jazmine and the hibiscus to flavor the chicken.
The yellow lilly is use to flavor dressings and soup.
IMPORTANT:
You must pay attention when deciding to use flowers in meal. Not all the flowers are eatable. Flowers from florist´s shops can not be use, because they are treated with pesticides.
RECIPE- LAVENDER ICE
1 handful of lavender
2 cups of cream
1/2 cup of honey
4 eggs.
Mix together cream, honey and yolks. Cook this mix until it´s heavy.Add the flowers and the egg white. Put it in the freezer.
